We wanted to take this opportunity to welcome to you to our community. It’s been a long time coming and it’s about time that we give you a little more background about why we got started, our vision and how you can get involved.
In many ways, we’ve had a very similar career background. Both of us started in PR agencies and became cognisant of the then bubbling up “new media” world. Kate went on to build her own, now award-winning blog, Fabric of My Life whilst Jess went above and beyond to build authentic relationships with the then newbie bloggers, recognising their future value to her clients. That’s actually how we met!
Unbeknown to us at the time, we were both way ahead of the “influencer” game. In the following years, that side of our industry blew up. Looking back now, the way we built authentic relationships, many of which turned in to true friendships, built the foundations for the way we run our business today. We firmly believe that there is a lot the industry can learn from our “back-in-the-day” ways. We want Be More Hive to encourage the industry to not over-think relationship building with “influencers”. Instead, it’s important to focus on being truly authentic and entirely human, much like how we were in those early days.
We need to shape brand/blogger relationships to be valued and viewed as a positive opportunity to grow your business, instead of being seen as a necessary evil.
Now that influencer marketing is becoming such a crucial element of every brand’s overall marketing campaign and many influencers are “influencing” as their full time job, it’s more important than ever that we make some positive changes to the industry. Brand/blogger relationships need to be shaped to be valued and viewed as a positive opportunity to grow your business, instead of being seen as a necessary evil.
As PR consultants ourselves, we’ve spent a lot of time having the same conversations with brands, being asked the same questions about working with influencers time and time again. Similarly, we have both been part of countless discussions with frustrated influencers who are fed up with brands not taking the time to properly understand the way they work. There’s room for improvement on both sides. Brands need to understand how the whole thing works and influencers need to be more consistent with their approach to brand partnerships and understanding of an industry that is still trying to get to grips with it all. That’s how Be More Hive was born. We were fed up of there not being a central source to remedy the issues the industry is having and a safe space for discussions to unfold. What’s currently happening is that these conversations are occurring on consumer-facing channels, damaging the reputation of both sides.
We’re going to straight up tell you now that there is no one-size fits all approach to this
